You know the feeling: you're stretching your creative wings.
You've begun the journey into personal projects. The kind of documentary project that gets you out into the world around you, telling stories you never thought you'd tell, digging deeper into the practice of documentary narrative, slipping into people's lives, pushing yourself farther and letting your creative wings spread.
You're not alone. More and more, those of us who came to photography through family or wedding work are finding in ourselves a desire and ability to go farther and document other stories. We're dancing on the edge of photojournalism, but with the freedom that comes from not being tied to assignments - we're creating our own assignments and taking our work to a new level.
The time has come to create a place for these projects. A place that elevates the work by bringing it together with other impactful projects created by emerging documentarians. A place that actively courts the attention of photo editors and gatekeepers who can open the doors for publication, exhibition, and assignments. A place that is a stepping stone for the ambitious among us.
This place is Confluence Magazine.
